Engaging. Relevant. Alive with activity. The greatest civic project since the 1998 Olympics, the New Central Library will start a new chapter in Calgary’s history and affirm our city’s place on the world stage.
Opening in 2018, the New Central Library will act as a catalyst to revive the East Village. It will act as the gateway between downtown and the emerging arts, music and culture hub. The shape of the building reflects its relationship to our environment—echoing drifting snow and the chinook arch—and has already begun contributing to the architectural landscape of Calgary.
Located down the street from this landmark building, the Library Experience will introduce visitors to the New Central Library and invite them to discover how the building will become a place of unbridled opportunity.
The Library Experience is located on the main floor of the Hillier Block (429 8th Avenue SE). Currently we are not open to walk-in traffic. To visit the Library Experience, please see below for information on how to register for a walking tour.
Discover the New Central Library on an immersive walking tour of the landmark building. Led by Library Foundation staff, the narrated exterior tour will highlight the genesis, architectural features and special spaces within the New Central Library—the building set to become the heart of the entire Calgary Public Library system.
Walking Tours depart from the Library Experience Centre (429 8th Avenue SE).
To book a private tour for 10 or more people, please contact Denise at 403-221-2631.
