Making the New Central Library Come to Life!

With only 245 days until the opening of the New Central Library, the landmark building is getting closer and closer to completion. In the same way that CMLC is managing the construction of the fully-funded building, a number of donors have come forward to help the New Central Library come to life.

Philanthropy has enabled the Library to enhance programs and services at its newest location, allowing the New Central Library to become so much more than an architectural marvel.

Investors in the New Central Library include Nexen, a CNOOC Limited Company, whose gift not only supported the Library’s flood recovery efforts in 2013, but will also establish the CNOOC Nexen Digital Commons on the third floor.

Linda and Mike Shaikh are notable philanthropists whose investment will be recognized with the naming of the Shaikh Family Welcome Gallery—a space that will welcome 25,000 Calgarians on November 1, 2018.

The Williams & Harris Shared History Centre was named in honour of Deirdre and Ian Harris’ families. Set on the fourth floor within a feature area on local history, their investment will help ensure that the stories of individuals and families in our city are told, collected and shared.

The fourth floor will also feature the TD Great Reading Room—a quiet space reminiscent of the reading rooms in other great libraries where patrons can study, focus and read without interruption.

These donors are just a few examples of Add In Founding Partners—generous individuals and corporations who have stepped forward in support of the Calgary Public Library.

Calgarians also have the opportunity to support critical program and services at the Library and add their name to the landmark building through our Windows of Opportunity Campaign. Leave your mark on the New Central Library.
