A uniquely “Made in Calgary” initiative, It’s a Crime Not to Read links Library staff and members of the Calgary Police Service with students in Grades 2-4. This connection gives children the literacy tools they need to achieve better school performance and higher employment and earning levels, and creates strong positive relationships between communities, their public library and local police.

20,000 Books Under the Bow

On Saturday, July 27 2013, the Library Foundation held a city-wide book drive,“20,000 Books Under the Bow,” which provided a unique opportunity for Calgarians to support their Library after the devastating flood on June 20—the worst in Alberta’s history. Channeling Jules Verne’s classical novel, “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea,” the Library Foundation sent out a rallying cry for Calgarians to help their Library.

With Sun Life’s investment and through the generous donations received by local arts and culture organizations, the Library utilizes its network of locations across the city to provide tickets to individuals and families who would not otherwise have been able to access these experiences.
