Communications Associate (6 month appointment with the opportunity for extension)

At the Calgary Public Library Foundation, our vision is to create the best public library in the world for Calgarians. We believe this is possible through Add In—the Campaign for Calgary’s Library.  The Add In campaign will build capacity for each and every community library, as well as the New Central Library, and will include projects with a strong impact for Library customers.

The Communications Associate facilitates the internal and external communications of the Library Foundation, and is responsible for maintaining the organization’s brand and unique voice. Reporting to the Director, Strategy & Support and working in partnership with the Creative Director, this role is responsible for the execution of the Library Foundation’s communication strategies, materials, and collateral.  Some key priorities include:


  • Maintain an editorial calendar to manage internal and external communications
  • Draft copy for materials and collateral to support all areas of the Library Foundation
  • Draft and disseminate monthly newsletters and e-updates
  • Generate online content to engage audience segments across multiple platforms (print, web, social media, etc.)
  • Manage social media platforms and respond to inquiries in a timely manner
  • Maintain and update website
  • Build roster of stories through donor interviews to highlight the importance of philanthropy and why they chose to support the Library
  • Draft event collateral including invitations, programs, letters and speaking notes
  • Provide day-of event support
  • Draft releases and advisories for distribution through external communications agency
  • Act as the media liaison at media announcements and other events
  • Other duties as assigned



  • A minimum of two years of recent, related full time work experience
  • Successful completion of a post-secondary program in marketing, communications, journalism, or public relations.
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Familiarity with WordPress, CMS Google Analytics, SEO Hootsuite and Adobe Creative Suites an asset
  • The ability to juggle multiple projects and competing demands
  • You have a passion for the Library


Hours and Pay

  • 37.5 Hours a week
  • $40,000/yr
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal office hours
